THE HISTORY OF THE HOTEL
Discover the story of Hotel La Muntanya, a family tradition that began in the 1930s. From its humble beginnings to three generations of warm hospitality, explore the history and heritage that make our hotel so special.
The beginnings of La Muntanya
The story of Hotel La Muntanya dates back to the 1930s, when Enriqueta decided to purchase a property near Llafranc Beach and move there with her family from Palafrugell. Her son Narcís, who was just 12 years old at the time, joined her on this adventure, marking the beginning of a long-standing family tradition. Thanks to her culinary talent and entrepreneurial spirit, Enriqueta transformed the property into a welcoming inn that soon began receiving the first visitors discovering the Costa Brava. Its success led to the addition of a second floor to accommodate guests. The name La Muntanya was inspired by the views of the mountains surrounding the Sant Sebastià Lighthouse, which dominated the landscape from the hotel at the time.
A story spanning generations
Over the years, Narcís took over the family business alongside his wife, Pilar. Together, they continued to develop La Muntanya and embraced new ventures, including opening a nightclub in the hotel's basement, which became a popular meeting place at the time. The family also expanded its presence in Llafranc's hospitality industry with the construction of Hotel Montecarlo, located on the same street.
A tradition that lives on
Today, the third generation continues to preserve Enriqueta's legacy, maintaining the
family spirit, personal service and warm hospitality that have been at the heart of La
Muntanya since its beginnings. A small hotel with a rich history, where we continue to take care of every detail to make our guests feel at home.
